We at Royal Hawaiian Honey have been off-setting the carbon footprint of each and every jar and tub of honey we sell since 2007.In fact, we are the first U.S-based food producer to obtain the Carbonfree designation! (Yes, we were way ahead of the curve…)
What is Carbonfree?
- What it means: Determining a product’s CO2 “foot-print” and off-setting it in equal measure by investing in CO2-reducing, sustainability projects.
- What we are doing to achieve it:
We teamed-up with Carbonfund.org to calculate the carbon footprint of Royal Hawaiian Honey’s jars and tubs. Carbonfund.org off-sets each pound of CO2 emitted in the production and shipping of our honeys by investing in projects that are dedicated to a cleaner, less-polluted environment. We are installing solar panels on the farm! Our goal is to be 100% solar-powered by 2011.Now our blog is Carbonfree, too!
- Benefit: We can all breathe cleaner air!
We believe in off-setting our carbon emissions because it is in-line with our company values; two in particular:
Integrity We treat our co-workers, partners, bees, and the ecosystem as we want to be treated.
Balance The success of our business and the quality of our lives depends on ecological awareness and preservation.
We are a unique business because honey is the ultimate carbon neutral food: Bees do not generate any carbon emissions in the production of honey.
In partnering with Carbonfund, we can keep it that way.
